Position Opening: Shop Craftsperson + CNC Operator

Hours: Full-time (typically 8am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday)
Compensation: Rate depends on candidate’s existing skill level; starting rate $22-25/hr

Role Overview: Kole Made seeks a skilled woodworker with a commitment to the craft and experience in the field. The ideal candidate thrives in creative, collaborative settings while being able to handle physically demanding work in a shop environment. Kole craftspeople also spend time in the field, installing millwork and performing occasional carpentry work. The ideal candidate will have experience producing parts on a 3-axis CNC and will spend some of their time producing parts on the CNC while labeling and organizing them. This position provides an opportunity to demonstrate and refine skills in fine woodworking, cabinet and furniture making, and renovation projects. No two projects are alike and will vary from bespoke cabinetry and built-ins to custom furniture pieces to unique bathroom vanities.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Functions
● Fabrication: Execute fabrication tasks, following cut lists or shop drawings to accurately break down plywood and mill lumber. Problem-solve custom and specialty projects as needed.
● CNC Operation: Use of CNC to turn provided cutlists and G-Code into labeled, organized parts.
● Mock-Ups: Mock-up cabinetry and built-ins at the shop with supervision as required.
● Finishing: Sand projects and apply finishes as per client specifications (including both spray and hand-applied techniques).
● Material Handling: Lift and move plywood, lumber, and finished projects.
● Construction Work: Perform occasional on-site construction tasks with supervision as needed.
● Quality Control: Perform quality control on individual tasks, ensuring they meet Kole Made’s standards. Bring any concerns to the attention of the Shop Lead.
● Inventory Management: Keep track of inventory and inform the Shop Lead of consumables that need replenishment.
● Safety & Maintenance: Perform all tasks while following safe practices and utilizing proper PPE. Maintain tools and equipment. Maintain a clean and safe work environment throughout the day.
● CNC Maintenance: Startup and Shutdown of CNC including cleaning and dust collection bag swap. Changing out tools and properly calibrating new tools for use on CNC.
● Tasks and Teamwork: Collaborate and complete tasks as assigned by the Owner, Shop Lead, or Production Designer that meet company objectives.
● CNC Coordination & Cooperation: Work with CNC Co-Operator to equitably share CNC use and maintain healthy coworking relationships with sister shop employees.
● Construction Work: Perform occasional on-site construction tasks with supervision as needed.
Requirements:
● Woodworking Experience: Minimum of 2+ years (other experience levels considered).
● Physical Ability: Stand for extended periods, squat, climb ladders, and frequently lift materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.
● Driver's License is required: With the ability to drive a work van upon request.
● Tool Proficiency: Skilled with shop tools, including saws, sanders, routers, and hand tools; experience with sanding and applying finishes.
● Precision: Proficient in shop math, capable of measuring up to 1/32 of an inch.
● Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret 2d and 3d shop drawings. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Windows.
● CNC operation experience or familiarity with equivalent automated machinery.
● Adaptability: Ability to pivot between projects and maintain high standards under varying demands.
● Organized: To execute work effectively, one must be able to remain neat and organized in the shop and on-site.
Preferred Skills:
● Sketchup experience preferred or equivalent 3d design software (AutoCAD, Fusion360, Rhino, etc…)
● Vcarve experience or equivalent CAM software. Conversion of vector data into CNC operations. Production of G-Code for machine use.
● CNC Maintenance experience. Tool changing and calibration experience. Feeds and Speeds familiarity for a 3 axis milling machine.
● Google suite proficiency (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Calendar)
● Apple computer proficiency
